About
Saheed Aderinto, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of History at Western Carolina University, Cullowhee NC. He is the co-author of Nigeria, Nationalism, and Writing History (University of Rochester Press, 2010) and co-editor of The Third Wave of Historical Scholarship on Nigeria: Essays in Honor of Ayodeji Olukoju (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, forthcoming August 2012). His works have appeared or forthcoming in leading Africanist and specialist journals including, Canadian Journal of African Studies (46/1: 2012); Journal of Colonialism and Colonial History (13/3: 2012); History in Africa: A Journal of Methods (39/2012); and Frontiers (33/3: 2012)--one of the oldest and most respected journals of gender studies in the US. He received his B.A in History from University of Ibadan (2004) and Ph.D., in African History from University of Texas at Austin (2010). A Senior Research Fellow of the French Institute for Research in Africa, Aderinto's areas of specialization include Nationalism and Historiography; Gender and Sexuality; Children and Childhood; Peace and Conflict; and the African Diaspora. He has authored about thirty journal articles and book chapters, and forty encyclopedia articles. Aderinto has also reviewed books for African Affairs; Journal of Men, Masculinities, and Spirituality; Journal of Asian and African Studies; International Review of Politics and Development; African and Asian Studies; Journal of Pan African Studies; Ethnic and Third World Review of Books; and Gender Forum, among others. He is currently working on another monograph on the history of sexuality in colonial Lagos.
